Privacy Policy
EarnTime is developed and operated by c-lab ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
Who this app is for
EarnTime is a family app designed to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian. Children use the app to complete quizzes and spend their earned screen time. Parents should read this policy and set up the app on behalf of younger children.
Data we collect
1. Automatically on first launch
- Anonymous Firebase UID — Firebase Authentication creates a random identifier for your device session. This contains no personal information. It is used to associate your device with cached quiz questions and cloud sync (if enabled).
2. Data you provide
- Child profiles — first name and age band (e.g. "8–11"). Stored locally on the device by default using SQLite. Never transmitted without your consent.
- Google Sign-In (optional) — if you choose to sign in with a Google account, we receive your Google account name, email address, and profile picture. This is used solely to sync your child profiles and time balance to Firestore, so you can restore them on a new device. You can sign out at any time and your data will remain local.
3. Data generated by using the app
- Quiz history and time balance — scores, subjects, difficulty levels, and earned/spent time. Stored locally, and in Firestore only if you have signed in with Google.
- XP, levels, and streaks — gamification progress. Same storage rules as above.
Data we do not collect
- We do not collect precise location, contacts, or camera data.
- We do not run advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
- We do not sell or share personal data with any third party for marketing purposes.
- Quiz question requests sent to our Cloud Function contain only subject, topic, difficulty, and a numeric seed — never any personal data.
Third-party services
EarnTime uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google) — anonymous authentication, optional Firestore database sync, and Cloud Functions. Firebase Privacy Policy.
- Anthropic Claude API — generates quiz questions via our Cloud Function. Requests contain only curriculum metadata (subject, topic, difficulty, age band). Anthropic Privacy Policy.
Children's privacy (COPPA & UK GDPR)
EarnTime is designed for family use. Children do not create accounts or provide personal information directly — a parent or guardian sets up child profiles. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
If you are a parent and believe your child's data has been collected without your consent, please contact us (details below) and we will delete it promptly.
Cloud sync via Google Sign-In is an opt-in feature intended for parents, not children.
Data retention and deletion
Local data persists on your device until you uninstall the app or delete a profile within the app. If you signed in with Google, your Firestore data can be deleted by signing out and contacting us, or by deleting your Google account's data via Google Account settings.
We will delete your Firestore data within 30 days of a written request.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR and GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, and erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Firestore is secured with rules that restrict each user to reading and writing only their own data. No sensitive personal data is stored in plaintext.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
